Blankets

Statement Blanket.

I wove this piece in the spring of 2017. I wanted to see how various colors of warp and weft strings interacted, so I set up my loom with sections of warp strings in different colors. All the wool was hand-dyed for this project, and I love how all the colors came out.

What I particularly love about this blanket is how the white warp and weft strings interact so subtly, but the pattern is still present. Although there isn’t a clear “pop” of pattern between the white warp and weft, it’s still distinguishable if you look closely enough.

Ombre Blanket.

Made in the spring of 2018, I used a plain-weave pattern for this blanket to draw the eyes to the color rather than the pattern. Made out of bamboo cotton, I used a cold-water dye vat to slowly dunk my warp strings into the dye, leaving about half the length of the warp strings outside of the bucket. I then let osmosis move the dye up the length of the warp string to give one-sided a faded, ombre look.

As you can see here, the purples, greys and blues start to fade to white at this end of the blanket, while the colors are very distinct on the opposite end.
